LA mayor hits Republican efforts to woo Latinos

The Democratic mayor of Los Angeles says Republican efforts to use Latino speakers at the GOP national convention to win over Latino voters won't work. Antonio Villaraigosa (vee-yah-ry-GOH'-sah) told reporters Tuesday that the GOP "can't just trot out a brown face or a Spanish surname" and expect Latinos to vote Republican. He called that window dressing.

 

Bill to delay cities' bankruptcies put on hold

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) says it's too early to make changes in a mediation process for municipalities seeking to file for protection. Legislation that could have delayed some municipal bankruptcies has been tabled after being opposed by the mayors of California's largest cities, including Los Angeles' Antonio Villaraigosa.

 

Hundreds urged to flee SoCal storm

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa urged hundreds of Californians to heed evacuation orders and flee their homes before a dangerous storm hits their area Wednesday morning.
