Brian Faulkner named principal of Heineman Middle School

Brian Faulkner, a former assistant principal of Heineman Middle School who spent the past five years as principal of Harter Middle School in Kaneland District 302, has been hired as Heineman’s newest principal for the 2020-21 academic year.

Blohm resigns from School District 3 board

The resignation of Fox River Grove School District 3 board member Gerry Blohm, effective March 17, was approved by the board at its meeting Tuesday night.

Superintendent Tim Mahaffy said Blohm has spent 21 years working either with or on the board, with 18 years of those spent actually on the board.

“They’ll be hard shoes to fill, but we need to fill them,” Mahaffy said during the meeting.

The deadline to apply for what will be a vacant position on the school board is March 18.

 

Boil order issued, Cary schools closed after water main break

A boil order was issued Monday night for some residents in Cary after a water main break near True Value Manufacturing.

The water main break led to Cary-Grove High School and all Cary District 26 schools to close on Tuesday.

Because of the water main break, according to a village news release sent Monday night, many properties in the areas south and west of downtown Cary experienced low water pressure or a complete loss of water.

 

Algonquin’s Stoneybrook Park gets grant

Algonquin was recently awarded a $400,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant to improve Stoneybrook Park.

Stoneybrook Park, which was last improved in 1997, will be redeveloped to add several amenities, including bocce ball courts, pickleball courts, a gaga ball pit, a pavilion, a walking trail and a 15-space parking lot.

The existing playground and sand volleyball court also will be replaced and improved.

Man arrested after Crystal Lake standoff recorded himself sexually assaulting child, police say

A McHenry man accused of barricading himself in a Crystal Lake apartment Friday had previously filmed and photographed himself sexually assaulting a child, police said.

Matthew Reder, 24, of the 500 block of Sunrise Street, was on parole for a for a 2016 residential burglary out of Iroquois County when he surrendered himself to police Friday, Illinois Department of Corrections records show. After being sentenced to four years in prison in 2016, Reder was released on parole Feb. 23, 2018.

Car a 'total loss' after catching on fire in Huntley

A car was badly damaged after it caught fire Monday afternoon at Huntley Auto Repair at 10369 Vine St.

Battalion Chief Mike Pierce said firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 4:46 p.m.

A customer who brought the car to Huntley Auto Repair went inside the business to talk to a mechanic, Pierce said.

When the customer came back outside, they noticed sparks coming from the bottom of the car.
