Crystal Lake resident reflects on living in the city for 100 years

Almeda Schulz has many memories of Crystal Lake – 100 years’ worth, to be exact.

Schulz has called Crystal Lake home her entire life, and it also is the place she recently celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday.

“For my age, I guess I’m doing pretty good,” Schulz said.

Some of Schulz’s memories are sad, such as the tornado she witnessed in the city in 1965.

About 40% of U.S. adults are obese, government survey finds

NEW YORK – About 4 in 10 American adults are obese, and almost 1 in 10 is severely so, government researchers said Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention findings come from a 2017-18 health survey that measures height and weight. More than 5,000 U.S. adults took part.

The survey found that the obesity rate was 42% – higher than the 40% found in a similar 2015-16 study.
