California attorney general's office subpoenas Fannie, Freddie

Information is sought on the mortgage giants' roles as landlords who own thousands of foreclosed properties in California. Also sought are details of their mortgage-servicing and home-repossession practices, a source says.

The attorneys general in California and Illinois have subpoenaed Lender Processing Services Inc, and Nationwide Title Clearing Inc as part of their probes into alleged "robosigning" practices in the mortgage servicing industry.

 

House Democrat received Countrywide loans: report

A leading Democrat in the House of Representatives who has rebuffed Republican efforts to subpoena records of a mortgage program for favored borrowers at Countrywide Financial Corp got home loans from that lender, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
