TV Column: Fred Willard hired by Christopher Guest after very bad summer

As we forecast back in August, actor Fred Willard — fired by PBS and pulled by ABC — has landed on his feet, at HBO. Chris Guest, who last month sold a mockumentary comedy series “Family Tree” to HBO, has hired Willard in a recurring role.

Fred Willard's improv series is a wipeout with ABC. The network is pulling the last two original episodes of "Trust Us With Your Life," a move that comes two weeks after Willard's lewd conduct arrest at an adult movie theater. Reruns of ABC's "Wipeout" will replace the Tuesday show hosted by Willard. The 72-year-old actor already had lost his job as narrator of a new PBS series, "Market Warriors."

And that's a wrap! At the 2012 Daytime Emmy Awards, Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa and the cast of "General Hospital" weren't the only ones celebrating their big wins.
