It all started on Monday when David Letterman told some off-color jokes about Alaskan governor Sarah Palin and her daughter. Dave made some cracks about one of the Palin girls having to fend off Eliot Spitzer and getting knocked up by Yankees star Alex Rodriguez during a recent trip to the Big Apple.

The only problem mucking up the whole Jay Leno leaving and Conan O'Brien arriving thing with "The Tonight Show" is that it was neither retirement or ascension. It was transition. And transitions are boring.

Conan O'Brien's premiere as host of NBC's "Tonight Show" drew the highest overnight ratings for a Monday episode in four years.

Will Ferrell has been booked as the first guest on the first episode of “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien,” airing June 1.
