The Illinois Department of Public Health announcement Monday that a fourth person in the state has contracted COVID-19, commonly called coronavirus, sent more people to pharmacies and grocery stores in an attempt to protect themselves and their families.

Jugs of water and hand sanitizer were hot commodities at area grocery stores on Monday.

 

59-year-old Woodstock man sentenced to prison for domestic battery

A 59-year-old Woodstock man was sentenced to prison Friday in connection with a March 2019 battery that sent a woman to the hospital.

Dennis Haradon, of Woodstock, accepted an offer from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office Friday and pleaded guilty to a felony count of aggravated domestic battery. McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt sentenced Haradon to seven years in prison.

Supreme Court will decide the fate of Obama health care law

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to decide a lawsuit that threatens the Obama-era health care law, but the decision is not likely until after the 2020 election.

The court said it would hear an appeal by 20 mainly Democratic states of a lower-court ruling that declared part of the statute unconstitutional and cast a cloud over the rest.

Man trapped under fallen trees flown to hospital

A man was flown via Flight for Life Sunday morning to Advocate Condell Medical Center after suffering serious injuries when he became trapped beneath two fallen trees, according to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

The man was cutting trees at a private property on the 4800 block of Pioneer Road in McHenry Township when two trees fell on top of him resulting in critical injuries, Battalion Chief Kevin Sears said.

 

Coronavirus update: Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights treating patient

The state's third patient diagnosed with the coronavirus is being treated at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Hospital officials issued a statement Monday morning acknowledging a patient was in quarantine at the hospital and they are working with state and federal health agencies regarding the patient's treatment.

"NCH is closely following recommended guidelines outlined by these officials," the statement read.

 

Cary's Crest Drive south of Trinity Oaks Way to close this afternoon

A road in Cary will be closed starting at 1 p.m. for an emergency water main and roadway repair.

Crest Drive south of Trinity Oaks Way will be closed, and Crest Drive/Sunset Drive between Second Street and Trinity Oaks Way will be open to local traffic only for the residents on that street.

The village said on its Facebook page that an update will be posted when the work is completed and the detour is removed.

 

Fourth case of coronavirus confirmed in Illinois

The Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health on Monday announced that a fourth Illinois patient has tested positive for COVID-19, also known as coronavirus.

The tests conducted in Illinois resulted in presumptive positives for COVID-19, according to a news release from the state of Illinois. The positive test results will have to be confirmed by the U.S.
