A backcountry skier who triggered an avalanche in a Whistler Cliffs snow chute near Interstate 70 and the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels was partially buried and injured in the snowslide on April 30.
The skier triggered the avalanche near the Whistler Cliffs area south of Coon Hill in a snow chute — a steep and narrow gully on a mountainside between two rock walls — according to a field report from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
The snowslide gained speed and mass as it ran through the chute, catching the skier from behind, the report stated.
Before the avalanche, the skier was descending an open area above the chute on the mountainside, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center said.
There are many ways to see Colorado, and Ashley Forshey plans to see 587 miles of the state on foot. Forshey is planning to run from the northern border of Colorado, starting on Route 287, to the southern border, ending south of Pagosa Springs. The goal is to complete the adventure in two weeks with a small crew supporting her.
“For anyone who doesn’t really know me and my story, most people think I’m crazy,” Forshey said.

The bipartisan deal to extend property tax relief to Colorado homeowners and commercial real estate owners is far superior to any of the highly partisan and heavy-handed ballot measures proposed for this November.
The compromise allows counties and special districts to keep some of the increased tax revenue they will generate thanks to the voter repeal of the Gallagher Amendment four years ago, but it also cuts about $390 million from their 2024 tax collections.
Police are investigating after a late-night crash in Denver Wednesday left one pedestrian dead.
