CONVENT, La. (AP) — Lafourche (luh-FOOSH) Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. say a Vacherie (VASH-er-ee) couple died when their boat crashed into a tree near the parish line. They say the body of 48-year-old Cheryl Cortez was found in the boat after the accident Friday morning on Bayou Chevreuil (chev-RAY) just off Highway 20. Divers and others searched more than 10 hours before finding the body of 38-year-old Shawn Cortez. The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating the crash.
