In April, Cindy Hyde-Smith became the first woman to represent Mississippi in the U.S. Senate, appointed by Republican Gov. Phil Bryant to fill the post temporarily after longtime Sen. Thad Cochran resigned. Hyde-Smith is fighting to keep that seat this November.
