EXETER — Michael Butera, local attorney and father of recent Wyoming Area graduate Peter Butera, was expected to speak at the district’s board meeting Tuesday after harshly criticizing the administration for cutting off his son’s graduation speech. But Michael did not show up for the meeting. Instead, school board members and district officials spoke about the aftermath of Peter’s off-script speech, which became a national story and landed him on the Jimmy Kimmel show. Wyoming Area Superintendent Janet Serino said she met with Peter on Monday after calling him the morning after his controversial speech. “I said, ‘You may not be here, but I’m here and so are thousands of students and I need to hear what you have to say,” Serino said last night.
