The 49ers waived 10 players Monday to get down to Tuesday’s league-mandated 75-player roster, including defensive lineman Lawrence Okoye who was trying to make the transition from Olympic discus thrower to NFL lineman. The 6-foot-6, 306-pound Okoye joined the 49ers in 2013, but never played in a regular season game during his two seasons with the team. He signed with San Francisco the year after qualifying for the discus final in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where he finished 12th. Also Monday, the team placed offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first six games this season.
