Derivatives are financial instruments, such as futures and options, which derive their value from underlying securities including bonds, bills, currencies, and equities.
Options
Typically, Investment "options" are rights to buy or sell some underlying instrument. The "call" is typically the right, but not the obligation, to buy the underlying instrument and the "Put" is the right, but not the obligation, to sell the underlying instrument.
