The brainchild of Chris Roberts, the Wing Commander series pushed the technological envelope with every release. The first three games in the series focused on the war between humans and the Kilrathi, a cat-like species; the fourth game is focused on a civil war. The last game in the series, WC: Prophecy, features a new alien threat. There were other successful spin offs like Privateer, Wing Commander: Academy, and Wing Commander: Armada.
