A’s outfielder Kenny Wilson, 27, looks for 1st big-league shot “I feel old,” the nonroster outfielder cracked. “Some people peak later, it takes longer to put things together,” said A’s minor-league instructor Steve Scarsone, who managed Wilson at Triple-A Sacramento in three years ago. Manager Bob Melvin singled out Wilson for praise after coaches’ batting practice Wednesday, saying he appears to have a nice swing, some pop and a lot of coachabilty. Wilson said that he really enjoyed his partial season with Sacramento and Double-A Midland in 2014 after being designated for assignment by Toronto. Wilson is coming off a rough season in which he hit .219 with Miami’s Triple-A New Orleans club. An excellent defensive outfielder, Wilson comes to an A’s team with minimal outfield depth, so there is little doubt the front office will be keeping tabs on him in case there is a need. Worst-case scenario, he’s in Nashville, doing the things he needs to do, which he will, and he could be a viable option.
