SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A new Illinois law limits how police can devices that cast a wide net in gathering cellphone data and are at the center of a lawsuit against the Chicago Police Department. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the legislation into law on Friday and drew immediate praise from civil libertarians. The technology, a cell site simulator, is perhaps best known by the brand name Stingray.
