By Nathan Olivarez-Giles Aether reimagined the speaker last year with the Cone, a voice-activated, music-streaming device that can guess which song to play based on mood or time of day. Now, Aether says the Cone has added multi-room portability to its list of firsts. The company is rolling out a software update Tuesday that will let users connect as many as four Cones together so they can hear the same song throughout their home, group specific rooms together, or play different music on each Cone.Other multi-room speaker systems such as Sonos, AirPlay, AllPlay and Play-Fi let you wirelessly connect speakers so you can beam music throughout the home, but none of these systems use portable, battery-powered speakers like the Cone does. The Cone lets users control the playlist using voice or by logging into the streaming music service Rdio in the Aether Cone app, which is available on both Android and iOS.
