Aetna Tops 2q Profit Forecasts

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Aetna Inc. (AET) on Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings of $731.8 million. The Hartford, Connecticut-based company said it had net income of $2.08 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to $2.05 per share. The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.84 per share. The health insurer posted revenue of $15.24 billion in the period, missing Street forecasts.
