BY ANTHONY SLATERJay Payton isn't from Oklahoma, but the former major league outfielder has made it his adopted home.
After a great career at Georgia Tech and 12 years in the big leagues, Payton now lives in Edmond, moving there to be closer to his 8-year-old son.
And because of the geographic proximity and his baseball acumen, Payton signed on to be an analyst for Big 12 college baseball broadcasts this season, including a majority of the OU games.
During this weekend's conference tournament, Payton sat down to talk about what he thinks of the Sooners, how he enjoys life in Oklahoma, one of his worst baseball memories and more:
Did you know this area at all before you lived here?
Not really, I didn't know much about it.
Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs, Andrew McCutchen also went deep, and Jeff Locke pitched six shutout innings to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.
Neil Walker added a solo home run for the Pirates, who won for a second time in Milwaukee this season, but for only the ninth time since 2007 at Miller Park — against 47 losses.
Locke (5-1) gave up three hits and struck out a season-high seven, to win his fourth straight game.
Bryan Radziewski threw eight shutout innings and Miami beat Clemson 7-0 on Saturday at the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament.
Radziewski struck out five and allowed four hits to help the eighth-seeded Hurricanes (36-23) wrap up 1-2 at the tournament, snap a three-game losing streak and send the fifth-seeded Tigers (39-20) to an 0-3 finish in Durham.
Brad Fieger gave the Hurricanes all the offense they would need with a two-run double in the first inning.
Steven Duggar had two hits to lead Clemson, which made three errors.
