Saul Loeb/Getty Images Amazon's major investment in British food delivery startup Deliveroo has hit another snag after the UK's competition watchdog decided to launch a formal investigation into the deal. The Competition and Markets Authority has been weighing whether to conduct a formal probe since July 2019, after Amazon led a $575 million funding round into Deliveroo. The CMA is worried that Amazon will effectively merge with Deliveroo with the investment, reducing competition. The watchdog will decide in December whether to escalate its probe further, which would result in the deal being blocked or Amazon being forced to sell off parts of its business.
