Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster, widely viewed as one of the college game's top defensive minds, signed a five-year contract with a significant raise, a person familiar with the deal said. Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock did not return a phone message Tuesday, but the person familiar with the contract said Babcock and Foster have signed the agreement and it is going through the university's approval process. Foster has spent his entire career on coach Frank Beamer's staff, beginning as a graduate assistant at Murray State in 1981.
