(NEW YORK) — An Arizona man has been charged with helping a New York college student get Islamic State training in Syria. Federal prosecutors said Ahmed Mohammed el Gammal was indicted Thursday. He was arrested Monday in Avondale, Arizona, on a criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday in Manhattan. U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Gammal had touted his support for the Islamic State online, attracting the attention of the 24-year-old student. He said the pair eventually met as Gammal helped the student travel to Syria for military training.
