Arizona, Cal’s road opponent on this Saturday, scored on a 48-yard touchdown pass as time expired, beating Cal 49-45 in front of 45,595 at Arizona Stadium. Cal got off to a quick start with a 44-yard touchdown run from junior running back Daniel Lasco. The Cal defense followed with a stop, and on Cal’s fourth play of the game, Jared Goff tossed an 80-yard touchdown pass to receiver Bryce Treggs. There was the 80-yard touchdown pass to Treggs and a 41-yard, second quarter catch by junior receiver Chris Harper, who had to dive to haul Goff’s toss in. Three plays later, Goff threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Stephen Anderson for Cal to take a 21-3 lead. The play was Anderson’s first catch of 2014 and his first career touchdown reception. On the next drive, Goff threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Harper for the Bears to take a 28-6 lead in a half that Cal outgained Arizona 387-207. Freshman quarterback Luke Rubenzer fumbled in the first quarter giving Arizona the ball eight yards shy of the end zone. The defense kept the Wildcats from gaining yards, and Arizona went on to miss a 26-yard field goal. Late in the first half when the Wildcats were in the red zone, sophomore safety Griffin Piatt intercepted Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon. The play was Piatt’s third interception in as many games and kept the Wildcats from scoring a touchdown just before the end of the first half. Sophomore running back Khalfani Muhammad added a 50-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run to give the Bears a 38-23 lead.
