Each time a play is whistled dead during a Wakefield football game, Shoni Carver leans forward and focuses her eyes on the scrum of players, intently searching for No. 24. It’s not that Carver is worried about her son, Leon Young, getting hurt; she overcame that fear when he first started playing football at the age of 5.
