Epics typically involve tragedies. How can they not? While the arc of history may bend toward justice — and at times, that “may” feels mighty wobbly — the cadence of history visits catastrophe on so many in the meantime. Italian playwright Stefano Massini’s “The Lehman Trilogy,” about the siblings who founded the Lehman Brothers investment bank, is epic in length (it runs a hair over three hours; Massini’s initial version was closer to eight) and Homeric sensibility. Matthew Boston brings verve and heft as Henry Lehman, the first of the enterprising Lehman brothers to arrive from Rimpar, Bavaria.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s The Greatest Show on Earth is back on tour with a new, revamped show that highlights incredible feats by humans rather than animals. The circus hit the road last year for the first time since 2017 when the historic big top went dark amid declining ticket sales and increasing pressure from animal rights groups.

Memorial Day 2024 events Through Monday. The Colorado Freedom Memorial brings back its Colorado Remembers ceremony for its 11th year on Saturday, May 25, with artifacts, exhibits, music and tributes to fallen heroes. After a free pancake breakfast and exhibition (8 -10 a.m.), the 11 a.m. ceremony includes an F-16 flyover, tolling of the honor bell and wreath laying.
