NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Andrew ” Hamburglar” Hammond is in his first season since college without his nickname painted on his helmet. But that’s not to say the Avalanche’s third-string goalie doesn’t still like the name. And Hammond, who played four years at Bowling Green University, hopes to commit hockey’s equivalent of grand larceny against the Nashville Predators in Game 5 on Friday night. The Avs — minus top-two goalies Semyon Varlamov and Jonathan Bernier, who are out with injuries — will lean on Hammond to save their season; the Preds lead 3-1 and will advance to the Western Conference semifinals with a victory at Bridgestone Arena.
