WATERFORD — Officials from the National Park Service, Congressional representatives and state officials participated Wednesday in a ceremony marking the state Barge Canal being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ceremony was held at the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Visitor Center on Peebles Island State Park.The Barge Canal is a work of early 20th century engineering and construction that affected transportation maritime commerce across the eastern third of the continent for nearly half a century.
