The day after Thanksgiving, called Black Friday, has long been considered the start of the holiday buying season and is typically the biggest shopping day of the year. But analysts have questioned whether the day is losing its cachet as retailers have pushed opening times into Thanksgiving, and discounting into early November. This year, big chains that opened on Thanksgiving included Macy’s, Target and Wal-Mart.
