“We adopted our son last year. He was born in Uganda. He was 2 when we met him, and now he’s 3. When we met him, all he spoke was Luganda, and now he mostly speaks English. Before we adopted him, we talked about teaching our son about his culture. We really wanted to bring a lot of Ugandan culture, as much as we could, inside the house. We knew it would be important for him to embrace being black.
