By Brandy McDonnellOklahoma native and country music star Blake Shelton is helping pediatric cancer patients in his home state.The Tishomingo resident has established the Blake Shelton Cancer Research Program in honor of his cousin, Aspen Van Horn. In 2016, Shelton donated $600,000 during his Oklahoma City concert to the Children’s Hospital Foundation in support of the Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.The Grammy-nominated entertainer has credited Aspen’s survival to the center for the work they do for children battling pediatric cancer.When Aspen was 5 months old, she had endured two blood transfusions, three rounds of chemotherapy and a surgical procedure to remove much of a neuroblastoma tumor, according to a news release.Read more on NewsOK.com
