By Far, Stumbleupon Has Been The Most Effective Sharing Button

I'm finding that StumbleUpon has been the most effective social button on the site. I've been consistently sharing my blog entires on StumbleUpon and other content sharing sites like Digg, Reddit, Twitter, Linkedin, +1, Facebook, and maybe a couple other ones. It's mostly a waste of time except for StumbleUpon.

I get almost nothing with the other buttons, but StumbleUpon can consistently get me hundreds of referrals whenever I write about technology. I get nothing when I write about movie stuff though, which makes me wonder if most of their users are tech geeks (I mean that in a good way).

UPDATE (11/11/2011):
Maybe not. They have movie fans too. A day after I wrote this, two of my latest blog entries from MoviesWithButter have been stumbleupon-ed.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by StumbleUpon's effectiveness. I only started submitting to StumbleUpon after reading an article about how it had surpassed Facebook's Share/Like buttons for driving traffic to other websites for that particular month. Since then, its lead over Facebook has widened. According to Mashable, StumbleUpon's 12M users drives 10% more traffic to other sites than Facebook's 750M users. Impressive.

  • Looks Like Facebook Home Is Not For Me
There’s been lots of news lately regarding Facebook Home. I use Facebook on a daily basis, but I’m not sure if I want them to take over my phone. I don’t even want Google to take over my phone; the first thing I did with my new phone was get rid of their search bar. More

Ever since Samsung came out with the Galaxy Note, I was already interested. It has a 5.3” screen and a pressure-sensitive stylus. Because I use my phone mostly for web browsing, the larger screen allows me to see more of a website without zooming in and out. More

After updating the site for seven days a week since the site was started years ago, I will be hands off during the weekends from now on. Because I don’t want the site to look too static, I’ve decided to redesign the “Most Fed Articles” block from the top right area of the site and moving it the top left just for the weekends and calling it “Weekend Edition.” If you came to the site this past weekend, you may have noticed the change and relocation. That’s just a start. More

I just noticed in the last couple of days that the sharing platform AddThis has removed “via @addthis” at the end of tweets using their widget. I use AddThis throughout the site. It’s a handy little widget that allows users to share articles through any social bookmarking/sharing site, like Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon and Pinterest. As a website owner, I use it to tweet articles to my Twitter account. More

I just started noticing this recently. It’s a nice touch. Before, you would have to go into a specific comment moderation page to keep track of comments. Now, it’s all tied into your profile page, just like when someone likes or comments on your status updates. Months ago, I converted my commenting system to Facebook’s. More

The latest version of Digg - aka Digg v4 - is getting a lot of negative feedback from its users, especially the power users.
