(Faith leaders of Akron released the following statement, shortly before the actual verdict in the Brelo case was announced.)We, representatives from the faith community of Akron, Ohio recognize the right of the community to peacefully protest any justice issue, but particularly the ongoing shooting and unfortunate killing and injuring of African-American males by police in America. In the light of recent shootings and situations like Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, Walter Scott, and Freddie Gray, we believe that all lives matter (which includes the police), and — in these situations — black lives matter. While protest is legal and legitimate, some may choose to use civil disobedience as a response.
