CHICAGO (AP) — Free agent catcher Alex Avila and the Chicago White Sox have agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract.Avila is a .242 hitter with 66 homers and 282 RBIs during seven big league seasons, all with the Detroit Tigers, and has thrown out 24.5 percent of attempted base stealers.

Hundreds of thousands of Oncor customers in North Texas remained without power late May 28 after severe weather early in the day, WFAA reported. About 356,000 were impacted statewide as of about 10:45 p.m., according to the utility's helpful online outage map. The highest concentration of those was in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, especially in Dallas, Collin and Kaufman counties. It was not clear when power would be restored for all.
