Thursday's traffic: Traffic slowing near on SB I-25 from Academy to Rockrimmon

Traffic is building on southbound Interstate 25 from Academy Boulevard to Rockrimmon due to ongoing construction, Gazette news partner KKTV reported.
The right lane of westbound Platte Avenue at Tia Juana is blocked.

Forecast: Temperatures to hit the high 80s in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs is jumping into summer with temperatures in the mid- to high 80s over Memorial Day weekend, meteorologists say.
The National Weather Service in Pueblo predicted a high of 81 degrees with some clouds Thursday, then clear skies and a high of 84 degrees Friday.
Memorial Day weekend is expected to feel like summer, with a high of 88 degrees Saturday and Sunday and 84 degrees Monday, the weather service reported.

Colorado recreational marijuana sales boom in month of March

DENVER — Recreational marijuana sales in Colorado eclipsed $105 million in March 2018, the highest monthly total for adult-use sales in the program's history.
The record-breaking month is part of a broader, seasonal trend playing out in Colorado's rec market, where sales have consistently spiked in early spring, midsummer and around holidays.

 

Boys, 14 and 17, suspected of robbing teens at gunpoint in southeast Colorado Springs

Two boys - 14 and 17 years old - were arrested on suspicion of robbing three teenagers at gunpoint Wednesday in southeast Colorado Springs, police said.
Both robbers were armed with handguns, police said. The boys' names have not been released because of their age.
The robbery happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Chapman Drive. A witness saw the robbers run into a nearby apartment complex.

 

Video shows staff acted appropriately in enforcing Colorado Springs school's dress code, principal says

Allegations of staff misconduct during a dress code protest at Holmes Middle School two weeks ago seem to be "completely unfounded and a product of rumoring and gossiping," Principal Rob Utter said Wednesday.
Accusations had surfaced about female students who wore short shorts, tank tops and clothing with holes being called derogatory names by staff, such as "hos" and "sluts."

'One-stop' center for domestic violence victims considered for El Paso County

Officials are exploring if El Paso County would be a good place to open up a "one-stop shop" offering resources for domestic violence survivors. On Tuesday, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of the Pikes Peak Region expressed interest in what is known as a "family justice center," that would offer access to many of the services that domestic violence victims and their families often need, from counseling to legal assistance.
