Prosecutors eligible to ask for death of Colorado Springs double-killer, jury finds

Prosecutors pursuing the death penalty against a Colorado Springs double-killer passed a key hurdle in his sentencing phase Wednesday, winning a jury's finding that the crimes were aggravated enough to be eligible for capital punishment.
Whether Glen Law Galloway, 46, will be sent to Colorado's death row rests entirely in the hands of his jury, which could take several weeks to render its decision, attorneys say.

Man shot in northeast Colorado Springs; juvenile arrested

A juvenile male was arrested Tuesday evening after a shooting in northeastern Colorado Springs.
Officers were dispatched about 5:30 p.m. to the 3800 block of Surrey Lane, where they found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the juvenile was arrested on suspicion of assault, tampering with physical evidence, obstructing a peace officer, theft and unlawful possession of a handgun.

Questions remain in state House and Senate races after the Colorado primary

Fire near Glenwood Springs adventure park quickly doused

A quick air and ground attack on a wildfire that started along Transfer Trail below the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park Monday evening, prompting a park evacuation, averted what could have been an extremely dangerous situation.
"The fire covered about 2 or 3 acres, and we were lucky there was not a lot of wind going on at the time," Garfield County Sheriff's Office spokesman Walt Stowe said Monday night.

 

Confident Lois Landgraf wins, primary victories set matchups for November legislative races in Colorado

Surrounded by family and a small group of friends, incumbent state Rep. Lois Landgraf allowed herself only a slight smile Tuesday night as she clinched the Republican nomination for the Colorado House District 21 seat.
Landgraf said she wasn't surprised by the results. With 92 percent of the vote counted, Landgraf had 65.5 percent, easily defeating Raymond Garcia, who was making his third bid for the state House.
