SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah-Chatham police are investigating the death of an adult male at his Wylly Avenue residence.

About 11 a.m. Saturday, metro responded to the victim’s house on Wylly Avenue near Dolan Drive.

Responding officers observed structural damage to the residence caused by a fallen tree.

After further investigation, the deceased man was discovered inside.

This death is weather-related.

The Lady Panthers are taking it back to their school.

An Augusta man remains in jail Saturday after being arrested Friday on charges related to sexual exploitation of children.
Kevin Andrew Niewood, 27, is accused of electronically furnishing obscene material to a child, according to jail records.

A 28-year-old female was arrested Friday and is facing murder charges.
Shakara Shanese Harden is currently being held at the Richmond County Jail on charges of murder and felony criminal attempt, according to the jail.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office stated they are not releasing any information at this time, but confirmed, “This is an old case.”
The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
 
 

Aiken County safety authorities issued two warnings Saturday morning.
First, motorists should limit travel because of weather and traffic problems, and citizens are urged to travel only if necessary.
Second, the Sheriff’s Office said the Governor’s Office warns that citizens across the sate are getting e-mails from an unknown address with attached links for “outage updates.”
Authorities warn this is attempt for the e-mail’s sender to gain access to your computer or personal information.

Augusta officials expressed gratitude Saturday to the volunteers, organizations and companies helping out as the city shelters thousands of Hurricane Matthew evacuees, but there are a few unmet needs.
Many Savannah residents bused in to Richmond County Board of Education shelters arrived without many belongings and need adult- and youth-sized T-shirts, socks and underwear and adult diapers, size XXL, according to fire and emergency management spokeswoman Dee Griffin.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is warning South Carolinians that Hurricane Matthew is still a danger across the state.

Haley met with reporters late this morning to urge the state’s residents to continue to be careful as the storm moves northeast along the coast.

The governor said no deaths have been attributed to Matthew in South Carolina.

BRUNSWICK, Ga.  — The Latest on Hurricane Matthew in   Georgia   (all times local):
6 a.m.
Portions of Interstate 95 near the   Georgia   coast are blocked by flooding and debris from Hurricane Matthew.
The   Georgia   Department of Transportation said Saturday morning two exits along I-95 were closed because of excessive water on the roadway in Liberty County, about 30 miles southwest of Savannah.

A maintenance worker at The Landings golf course on Skidaway Island, James Lane hadn’t planned a trip to the capital of golf.
“My boss always says, he wants us to look like Augusta,” he said.
But Wednesday, Savannah, Ga., began advising residents to take the nearest city bus to the civic center, where Lane boarded a Chatham County school bus. Six hours later, the caravan of six buses pulled up to the T.W. Josey High School gymnasium.
