Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap wants to head off juvenile offenders before they commit violent crimes or become victims themselves. Working with Diane McLeod, her chief Juvenile Court prosecutor, and grant writer Kristin Fulford, Heap and her staff received a $220,000 federal grant on Sept. 30 to help them in efforts to work with kids before they hit the criminal justice system. “We’re looking at kids, juveniles, who are at risk,” Heap said.
