Chicago Cracked Down On Open Bars Last New Year's Eve, So Don't Expect Many This Year

Illinois has tight restrictions against open-bar arrangements at bars and restaurants, and after a crackdown earlier this year it's likely there will be far fewer New Year parties in Chicago advertised as such. The state's Happy Hour Law only allows an open bar at private events, and for a set period of time, and so, as DNAinfo Chicago explained, the city was able to trawl online advertisements and identify establishments that offered alcohol illegally last December 31.
