The cost of child care in the United States for many parents is more than the cost of in-state college tuition, according to a new study from the think tank New America, which recommends major systemic changes to help families get affordable child care. Overall, the report said, college tuition costs $9,410 per year on average, whereas the average annual cost for full-time child care for children 4 years old and younger is $9,589.
