This week's Chronicle Watch feature highlighted what we called the "jerk merge," an annoying move by drivers who use the wrong lanes to slingshot in front of others during commute gridlock and cut in at the last moment, typically at San Francisco freeway on-ramps. It struck a nerve with readers. Almost everyone who has been behind the wheel in the Bay Area, it seems, has been cut off by one of these ne'er-do-wells - or has pulled the move themselves. The problem extends beyond being rude and dangerous.
