City kids in Grades 3 to 8 posted modest gains on the 2017 state English and math exams, a fourth consecutive year of improvement, according to new data. In math, 37.8 percent scored at proficient levels last year, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from 2016, according to the state figures released Tuesday.
