Contractor injured at Exxon polyethylene plant

A contractor was injured while working at the Exxon Mobil polyethylene plant on U.S. 90 in Beaumont, a company spokeswoman said.

 

4 new stores planned for Parkdale Mall

Parkdale Mall's owner has submitted plans to the city of Beaumont proposing four stores to fill more than 100,00 square feet of empty retail space this coming year. The plans, which are still under review by city officials, call for the "partial alteration" of the former Macy's and two adjacent storefronts, as well as a 28,959 square foot addition. HomeGoods and Five Below are listed as intended tenants for the addition and the former Ashley HomeStore space. The furniture store moved to a free-standing location at the corner of Dowlen and Folsom last year.

Diocese backs proposal for affordable housing near Kelly High School

After seven months of discussions over buffer zones and traffic concerns, the Catholic Diocese of Beaumont is backing a plan to build an affordable housing complex near Kelly High School, which could push city leaders to support the proposal after opposing it last winter.
Developer ITEX Group, LLC plans to apply to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for Housing Tax Credits to build a 110-unit senior housing development on land currently owned by Games People Play on College Street.

 

Defense asks for change of venue in Hardin Co. capital case

Hardin County's oldest capital murder trial, which is scheduled to begin Tuesday in Kountze, could be delayed again after a last-minute request by the defense for a change of venue.
Ryan Gertz, one of Jason Wade Delacerda's two defense attorneys, said he filed a change of venue motion on Thursday requesting the trial be moved out of the county.
