Lawmakers from Swing Districts More Likely to Support Deal

National Journal finds that House members from more competitive districts were more likely to vote for the debt-ceiling increase last night, while members from safe seats provided most of the votes against the package. In fact, there was a clear relationship between the political safety of districts and the level of support for the bill: "The further a member's district is from the political center, the more likely it is that he or she opposed the compromise."
