Authorities today determined that a 40-year-old man who was found dead in a mobile home Sunday killed himself a short distance from where his cousin was found shot multiple times.
The birds had room to move around at their temporary home, including cages that allowed them some space to fly. But it wasn’t the large, open spaces of the aviary.
Police have arrested the Cedar Rapids man who they say stabbed a 72-year-old man multiple times this weekend. Frederick Rottmiller was suffering from a multitude of potentially life-threatening stab wounds for as many as six hours before he was found by a passerby, police said Tuesday. Theodore Gathercole IICedar Rapids police were called to the intersection of Park Court and Second Avenue SE at 3:49 a.m.
WINDSOR HEIGHTS – State environmental regulators were blistered Tuesday by organized critics who blasted their inaction in curbing corporate farm pollution and demanded more enforcement of clean air and clean water standards. A dozen members of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) took turns berating the state’s Environmental Protection Commission for failing to live up to its regulatory mission and Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials for dragging their feet on federally directed cleanup efforts.“Evidence has shown that our air and water quality are increasingly under attack with ever-growing numbers of polluted springs,” said CCI member Jim Yungclas of Grinnell.
