Comment on U.S. women win gold in gymnastics

Picture this: You’re hiking in a remote, high alpine area of the national forest in southwest Colorado. You haven’t seen another human in many miles, if at all, and so you’re a little more than startled when you encounter a herd of cows wandering through the recreation area. Don’t panic. The livestock are supposed to be there – and you are, too. Recreation and agriculture are two of Colorado’s largest economic drivers, and they often coexist in regions where there are abundant public lands.

Wayne Wilkins has been homeless in Aurora for just over a year after failing to pay his $1,375 monthly rent at an apartment he used to lease in the city. He now lives in a tent with his girlfriend — pitching it anywhere in Aurora where he thinks he will least likely be asked to move along.

Summer officially arrived on Thursday, as defined by the June solstice, which means fourteener season is fast approaching. For some hardy hikers, it has already begun. Inexperienced peak baggers would be wise to wait a while before venturing out. Patchy snow is being reported on many trails where microspikes or crampons are recommended.
