Somebody forgot to tell Nolan Jones that the Rockies can’t hit away from Coors Field. Entering Saturday’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, the rookie outfielder was slashing .285/.368/.536 with nine home runs on the road. Those numbers are on par with his home numbers: .284/.383/.503, eight home runs. That balance is another reason why Jones gets my vote for Rockies MVP, beating out shortstop Ezequiel Tovar. And while I’m certain that Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll will be named the National League rookie of the year, Jones makes a strong case.

The Ducks have just too much talent, and depth, for the Buffs right now. Especially up front. If the Ducks score here, might I suggest a lot of run plays in the second half for CU?

Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks has been rescheduled to Thursday, the team announced Saturday. The contest will start at 1:10 p.m. at Guaranteed Rate Field. Major League Baseball made the switch to accommodate scheduling at the end of the regular season because of rain along the East Coast, which led to the postponement of Saturday’s Diamondbacks game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The Sox will be offering $1 tickets to the rescheduled game, as well as free parking.

The NBA Board of Governors voted Wednesday to approve a new player participation policy that will fine teams for resting multiple stars in any game.

These time spans aren’t how long New Yorkers will have to wait until the Knicks will win another NBA title after their 50-year drought. What they do represent are varying proposals for how long the Knicks’ home, Madison Square Garden, should be granted a special permit by the City Council to operate a large arena as city zoning rules otherwise only allow a facility of 2,500 seats (MSG can hold close to 20,000 spectators). But however long the sports center stays in place, Penn Station squatting underneath isn’t going to substantially improve until its derelict owner, Amtrak, agrees to optimize its efficiency for all the railroads using it and discard a terrible idea to tear down a huge chunk of Midtown for an unneeded dead-end annex. When the headhouse of the original 1910 Penn Station, the architectural masterpiece by McKim, Mead & White, was demolished starting in 1963 to make way for MSG, the Garden was granted a 50-year special permit.

Last season’s opener took a left turn for the Bulls when Zach LaVine was named a late scratch due to load management — which LaVine and coach Billy Donovan insisted was planned in the preseason — as he eased back from a left knee injury.
