A's questions going into spring training

A's questions going into spring training [...] if there is one mantra across all team sports, it's that you cannot have too many good players, and if the A's must come up with inventive ways to make use of a very deep roster this spring, manager Bob Melvin is the man for the task. [...] if so, does that really help the A's, considering that he and first baseman Brandon Moss are both left-handed batters? Melvin says that second base is the A's biggest undecided issue, and that 2011 third baseman Scott Sizemore, out all last season after knee surgery, will compete for the job with Jemile Weeks, who was Oakland's second baseman most of 2011-12 before being demoted in August. [...] newly acquired infielder Jed Lowrie was a second baseman at Stanford, and if he isn't required to plug holes elsewhere, second might not be a bad spot for him. [...] baseman Josh Donaldson didn't come on strong offensively until his final call-up in August, so if he falters, Sizemore could return to third and Lowrie could handle second. If Brandon Moss needs more relief at first base than anticipated, Lowrie could be there, and naturally, if Japanese shortstop Hiro Nakajima has a rough transition to the major leagues, Lowrie is major insurance there.
