Giants fan pleads not guilty in fireworks case

Paolo Pavone, 21, of San Bruno was charged with possession of a destructive device in a public place and possession of an incendiary device, both felonies, as well as with a misdemeanor count of discharging a dangerous firework. Witnesses reported seeing a man sitting in the outfield bleachers, wearing a Giants hat and orange jacket, throw a large firecracker that looked like an M-80 into a group of people standing in the concourse near the Coors Light concession stand. Several people suffered minor injuries, but because the injuries were limited to some dizziness and ringing in the ears, prosecutors charged Pavone with the lesser felonies. The attorney said the original bail amount appeared to be a reaction to well-publicized violence at sporting events rather than a reflection of this week's incident.
