Tim Miller, founder and director of EquuSearch, said the Feb. 21 Federal Aviation Administration order prohibiting the operation of four drones has meant the nonprofit organization has not used them in three active searches for missing persons in Katy, Louisiana and Oklahoma. FAA officials said the volunteer search group could use drones if it operated them under sponsorship of a law enforcement or government agency that already has FAA authority to use drones.
