The smoke hovering over Richmond and Columbia counties this morning appears to be a result of a inert landfill fire. Pam Tucker, director of Columbia County Emergency and Operations Division, said the smoke, which first appeared Tuesday, is the result of a mulch fire at a landfill on Gordon Highway in Richmond County. Tucker said the lingering smoke will likely hang around until the next rain.
